Peacock Archers World Archery Weekend 2023

Peacock Archers held their annual world Archery weekend on Saturday and Sunday 17th and 18th June 2023 in the beautiful setting of the grounds of Girton College. Jordan, Paul, Daniel, Pete, Julian and Louise were in attendance on one or both days.

Day 1 – WA720’s and Head to Heads (17th June 2023)

Qualification round

The first part of the day is the 720 rounds with 72 arrows at 70m for recurve and longbow. 50m for compound and barebow.

Recurve and Longbow Gents – Paul ranked 7th with 592 and Julian ranked 39th with 48.

Recurve Women’s  – Louise qualified 8th with 439 shooting 70m.

Barebow Gents – Daniel ranked 13th with 425.

Compound Gents – Jordan qualified 10th with 569.

Head to Head Matches

In the afternoon saw the head-to-head matches, where 3 arrows are shot with a set system for all bow types except compound who use a cumulative total score throughout 5 ends of arrows. In the set system the first archer to 6 points is the winner (2 for a win, 1 for a draw).

Recurve Gents – Paul had 2 Bye’s so went straight to the top 32 match and won it 6-0 but was beaten in the next round 6-2. Julian had a bye in the first round and then went on to lose 6-0 but it was his longbow against a recurve!

Recurve Women’s – Louise won her first match in the top 16, 7-3 then went out in the following round 6-0 to Sarah Russell who went on to win the event.

Barebow Gents – Daniel was knocked out in the first match 6-0.

Compound Gents – Jordan’s first match in the last 16 was very close finishing 134 to Jordan’s 133.

Day 2 – WA1440 and Metric rounds (18th June 2023)

The second day saw the 144 arrow rounds of 90m, 70m, 50m and 30m for gents with other shorter metric distances available for ladies, masters, and juniors. Today also included the Outdoor Cambridgeshire County Championships for 2023.

Very hot and humid on the second day, but unfortunately, we did not finish the round and had to stop once we had finished the 3rd of 4 distances due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Medal Wins at Peacock Archers WRS WA18

Peacock Archers WRS WA18 2022

Paul, Jordan, Daniel, Mel, Pete, Alison and Harry attended the annual Peacock Archery WRS WA 18m shoot on Sunday 30th January 2022.

The WA 18m round is shot on a 40cm target face at 18m with the maximum score being 600. These rounds are also shot with each archer having their own target face. For single full face targets, there are 4 target faces per target boss, which means you may be on the top or the bottom target for the shoot. Although you do have the option to shoot on a triple sport target as well.

A lot of very good archers attended the World Record Status shoot so this made the medal wins even sweeter and the medal winners shot very well on the day.

2nd Men’s Barebow – Pete 515
3rd Men’s Recurve – Paul 551
3rd Ladies Barebow – Alison 446

Well done to everybody.
