Medals at Norwich Portsmouth

Daniel, Mel and Louise travelled to the City of Norwich Archers first Portsmouth competition on Sunday 25th March.

The competition did not only count your first round, but all 3 session scores counted, and your highest score was used to work out the results.

Daniel and Louise shot only the 3rd session, but Mel shot in all 3 sessions.

It was a nice bright sunny day and a nice bright sports hall. The lights were on in the hall, but the hall also provided a lot of natural light from large windows all around the roof line. Good lighting always helps.

Mel came 2nd in the Mens recurve category and Louise came second in Ladies recurve category.

Silver and Bronze at CAA Shoot

On Sunday 11th February four Ely Archers travelled to St. Ives to take part in the Jolly Archers Portsmouth which incorporated the Cambs County Champs shoot.

Harry won silver in the junior gents recurve category for both Cambs County and the overall Jolly Archers shoot.

As well as individual medals there are also team bow type awards. Ely Archers won bronze in the recurve team section and bronze in the overall Jolly Archers shoot. Well done to Harry, Mel and Daniel.

The recurve team is the top 3 recurve highest scores from the club, but the team must include either a junior recurve archer or at least one lady recurve archer.

The 2019 shoot date is Sunday 10th February 2019.

Hit and Miss Competition – A Hit!

On Sunday 20th January we decided to run our own club Hit and Miss competition. This is usually a team event with one archer being a compound archer and the other a recurve archer. But as we have hardly any compound archers at the club we instead had teams of 2 recurve archers or barebow archers both shooting on 60mm spot targets. We had a separate competition for barebow and recurve to make things fair.

Teams were chosen based on one archer with the better handicap and the other archers with the lower (or unknown) handicap. We started with a 10 end ranking round, we then broke for tea, coffee and Alison’s lovely cake!

The next round was head to head knockouts and finally the finals.

Winning Teams:

Barebow Silver: Bart and Alison (Epic Fail)
Barebow Gold: Mary and Maggie (Bare Ladies)
Recurve Bronze: Louise x2 (Only One)
Recurve Silver: Ian and Steve (Oh No!)
Recurve Gold: Trevor and Eric (Thunderbirds)
