The role and duties of a Field Captain

  • At all times, whenever shooting takes place, it must be under the control of a Field Captain.
  • The Field Captain shall be in sole control of the shooting, shall resolve all disputes in accordance with the Rules of Shooting and make any necessary interpretation and any decision on occurrences not covered by them.
  • The Field Captain shall be empowered to exclude any archer if he observes any breach of the Shooting Rules or has any such breach reported to him by another archer.
  • The Field Captain shall be responsible for:
    • The layout of the range to ensure it complies with the GNAS Rules of Shooting.
    • Suspending shooting due to weather conditions, accidents or like occurrences.
    • Making any other arrangements as needed in each case.
    • Any other Health & Safety issues that may arise on the day.
  • Competitors’ equipment may be checked by the Field Captain before and at any time during shooting.
  • The Field Captain shall exercise control over the use of loudspeakers, photographers and the presence of spectators so that the comfort and concentration of competitors is not disturbed.
  • The Field Captain will adhere to the lost arrow procedure.
  • If for any reason the Field Captain is unable to continue in his/her role then he/she will appoint an experienced archer as a replacement. The replacement must have knowledge of the above roles and duties.
